Vaaitjie Moravian Primary School

Join us as we support these amazing people to enjoy their old age in this home,

Vaatjie school was built by the Moravian church and opened in 1967.  The school is situated on the Old Mamre-Darling Road, near Atlantis.  The three original school buildings are built with bricks and mortar with asbestos roofs.  As time went by, more classrooms were needed and prefabricated buildings were added.

There are currently seven classrooms which houses 154 children, aged 6 to 14, coming from the neighboring farms and informal settlements nearby. The school receive funding from the Department of Education to pay for stationery, textbooks, water, electricity, and the salaries of eight teachers.

They are faced with huge challenges daily, e.g., the health hazards of the leaking asbestos roof, lifting wooden floorboards, a lack of infrastructure to secure the area, resulting in vandalism and destruction, no drinkable water on tap, no sport facilities, no internet, and teachers in need of computer training.

Focusing on the priorities, we would like to replace the asbestos roof, create a small sports field, and provide much-needed training to the teachers.  Via partnerships with clubs around the world, we are hoping to reach these goals within the next couple of months.
