du noon fire

On Friday January 9 more than 5,500 residents were left homeless after a devastating fire tore through the Du Noon informal settlement, destroying over 1,000 dwellings and marking what is believed to be the worst informal settlement blaze in the Western Cape since the Khayelitsha fire of 2013. With the Inferno happening in our own community Rotarians quickly jumped into action and with the Help of especially Bayside Mall, Checkers and Spar we managed to collect a significant amount of donations and provide well needed relief for the victims of this devasting fire:

-clothing black bags 286
-assorted bedding black bags 51
-boxes of assorted pots, pans, utensils, glasses etc 31
-groceries in checkers sizes bags 43
-pet food bags 13(plus some left in store room for spca collection
-nappies packets 7
-mattresses 3
-stoves/gas cookers 4
-toilet roll packs 2
-stationery in checkers bags 3

A big thank you also to the Milnerton Fire Department, Cape of Good Hope SPCA and Cape Town Risk Management Services for providing assistance in getting the goods delivered where needed.
